Hello! Bonjour and Weyt-k!
I am a mom of three amazing young adult children, fur-mom to two sweet little Yorkies, and a nana to two (so far) beautiful grandbabies.
I grew up with a love of being in the kitchen and I love to bake. When I need some creative time, I can be found in my craft room scrapbooking, making cards, sewing, and learning to crochet (again). I am an avid bookworm and usually have a couple books on the go. I grew up in Vancouver and find myself deeply connected to the water and being outside in nature. I have learned over the years that the things that are part of me, are also ways to fill my bucket.
I am passionate about social emotional learning, sustainability, and inclusion. It is important to me that I help to create safe and culturally sensitive spaces for everyone. Attending an elementary school near UBC endowment lands meant we often found ourselves outside to learn and explore. Being able to learn about nature and connect to real life, the Museum of Anthropology and Indigenous culture, and connect to new experiences (love a slug day) made learning fun and are things I still remember. I want to foster that type of learning for my students. I believe that learning is not limited to the four walls in a classroom. Professional development is important to me and I want to create a value in seeing learning as a life-long journey.
I wear my heart on my sleeve, my values are rooted in compassion, empathy, relationship building, and understanding. I am a memory keeper who is always the one behind the camera and recording the stories and everyday moments. One day I hope to make it to Santorini to experience the people and culture, their delicious food, dreamy sunsets, and breathtaking scenery. To be able to learn the rich history, hear the stories, and see the world through a different lens would be an incredible way to share how land-based learning doesn’t have to end when you leave school.
