Place Value in Primary Grades 2/3
STAFF-Copy-of-Place-Value-in-Primary-Gr.-2_3-2024-Slide-DeckI attended the SD 73 Pro-Day Math Workshop at Arthur Hatton Elementary. It was a very informative and interactive morning learning about place value and the different resources, activities, and ways to engage students. Math was the one subject growing up that was my least favourite subject and I spent multiple summers in high school attending summer school. As I reflect on reasons I used to dread math, the first thing that sticks out is that math class consisted of a few questions done on the chalkboard by the teacher, then the class did some questions together with the teacher, and finally we did questions from the textbook on our own. Looking back, I wonder if having more hands-on activities and the ability to have multiple ways to solve math problems, might have not left me with some of those negative experiences. At the beginning of this year, I chose to shift my mindset and tackle my fear of math head on. I have taken every opportunity to take part in educational development that has helped me to see math through a different lens. Math is fun!
